On 17 January 1966 crashed after a failed in-flight refueling, an American B-52 bomber and a tanker plane over the village of Palomares in the Andalusian province of Almeria with four hydrogen bombs on board from, two of which the area with plutonium contaminated, another found intact, and a fourth only could be recovered after months from the Mediterranean. The Franco regime disguised the incident for fear of protests and to tourism, the U.S. government disguised for reasons of embarrassment, shipped 17,000 tons of poisoned soil in the United States and participated in by 2009 at a cost of health studies.
